The biggest cause of divorce today is infidelity. Adultery is a major problem that many marriages must face during the course of the marriage. The signs of infidelity are many and varied and unless a spouse knows what some of these signs are they will remain ignorant of the infidelity. What are some of the signs? A spouse who grows more and more distant over time may have some overriding stresses related to work or other areas, but this is usually one of the first signs of cheating. Intimacy becomes a distant memory. Your spouse is not interested in having sex and seldom touches you. When there is intimate contact, the spouse feels distant. It is possible that your spouse feels guilty for cheating on the lover he/she is cheating on you with. Or he/she may ask you to perform new sex acts or try new positions than you never have.
Another sign is frequent unexpected trips, often taking longer than would reasonable be expected. If the spouse suddenly feels the need to go to the store for a loaf of bread and stays gone for an hour or more, this is a bad sign. If the spouse suddenly starts calling and saying will be late getting home from work on a regular basis or starts having frequent car trouble or other excuses to be away from home for longer periods.
A spouse who for as long as you have known them was comfortable in whatever they had on may suddenly upgrade their wardrobe. This upgrade may not mean new clothes but may simply be the change from jeans and sweatshirt to a polo shirt and slacks. This sudden attention to appearance may be a signal that something is going on. If there are no dirty towels in the bathroom yet the spouse always looks clean and fresh, somewhere there are dirty towels and this needs to be looked into.
Most people either have short or long telephone conversations. If their telephone habits have changed, then that’s a clue that they are doing something without you knowing. If you have a caller id, watch the numbers, are they familiar or new numbers?
Any one of the above indicators can be innocent in itself. If any combination of the above indicators arises at the same time, then warning flags should arise. Each of these indicators can have perfectly logical explanations yet knowing if a spouse is being unfaithful is a complicated process. One of the best indicators that the spouse is being unfaithful is simply feeling inside yourself that infidelity is happening. If you feel this then chances are that you are absolutely correct.
